In a world of digital stamps and fleeting experiences, Kenya’s tourism industry is banking on innovation to enhance the visitor experience. The government has unveiled an innovative Souvenir Passport for travellers, enabling tourists to document their experiences at different tourism destinations across the country.

The Souvenir Passport, which borrows from the concept of a conventional travel passport, allows both domestic and international tourists to receive stamps at each tourism destination they visit or tourism product they experience. This creates a personalised record of their journey across Kenya’s diverse attractions.

According to Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, the new initiative positions the country as an innovative leader in the global tourism marketplace.

“To remain competitive as a destination, we must continually innovate and keep visitors interested in the unique experiences our country offers,” she said.

The Souvenir Passport is also expected to significantly benefit domestic tourism, which has recorded notable growth in recent years following the global slowdown caused by political unrest and the COVID-19 pandemic.

National data shows that in 2024 alone, Kenya recorded more than five million bed-nights from domestic travellers and 2.4 million international visitors, representing a 15 per cent increase from 2023.
